Released in the summer of 2023, 'Sketches Of Europa' is the one and only studio album by SoulJahm. The album's beginnings go back to the summer of 2011 in Milan, Italy where we had a bunch of new songs, mostly written on ukulele (with melodica) and mostly born out of the experiences we went through travelling continental Europe during that time. Wherever and whenever we could, we'd work on these recordings and managed to finish a few of them, which were released as singles at the time.
After Kate's death in 2014, the unfinished tracks were abandoned for a while as I had little choice but to revert back to continuing my solo work, expanding on my debut album from 2006, 'One Way Ticket', with new albums 'End Of The Strangers' and '2020' and an acoustic version of the 'One Way Ticket' album titled 'One Way Ticket (Travelling Lighter)', as well as a few other acoustic releases.
At the start of 2023, with a better studio set-up, I felt inspired to finally finish off the unreleased recordings and remix the old single releases to produce a cohesive album as we had intended all those years ago. For a few songs that we hadn't got round to recording final vocal takes for, I was able to use the guide vocals we'd done and one or two other songs which Kate never got round to singing on at all featured only my voice. It's as close as I could get to our original vision of the album and a good collection of songs documenting the SoulJahm journey.
