We're currently staying in Bologna over the winter spending most of our time practicing. There won't be much online activity from us this winter but we may be able to sneak a track or two up...we'll keep you posted.

"Sunrise" is another of the demos originally recorded in 2006 for David William's follow-up to the "One Way Ticket" album.These demos were abandoned in 2007 and are only now starting to emerge again under SoulJahm. This song was originally part of the 2006/7 demos intended for David William's follow-up album to "One Way Ticket".We created this instrumental track in Berlin in January 2012 for practice purposes but we like how it turned out and felt to share it. It might indicate the direction we go with this song in future with vocals.

This song is from Edinburgh days and was written around the same time as "Spitting Out The Shit". It came up for SoulJahm in Budapest this summer and felt good to sing and play. After a few attempts to get the right feel, we got this 1st acoustic version together towards the end of our time there and hope to take it further on the next version.

Written in the summer of 2011 on the island of Giudecca, Venice, our first stop in Italy. We had no idea what we were going to do with this song at that point but recorded a ukulele track in our apartment with the windows open where the sound of a boat passing was picked up along with the water. This simple ukulele track became the basis for the rest of the recording.

This track came together within a few days of arriving in Perugia, Italy in September 2012. Unintentionally, the song was written while it was recorded and so we followed through and this is the end result.

We recorded this off-the-cuff one Sunday afternoon in Perugia, Italy. We hadn't played it for a long time. The song was written in 2006 with a demo recording made in 2007. The demos were intended for a second David William album which never happened. Now this song has found itself into the SoulJahm canon and another we wish to realise its full potential by recording properly sometime.

Written in Salzburg, Austria in May 2011. This 'studio version' features piano recorded in Milan and ukulele and maracas recorded in Nice, with vocals and melodica added this year while in Budapest.

Balcarres Street in Edinburgh is where we rented our first apartment and lived for 3 years, between 2004 and 2007. The "One Way Ticket" album was produced there and many profound changes in our life took place during that period.

Strangely, this song came in Berlin in February 2012 and was further developed in Budapest in June this year. We have only just finished the 1st version this week and so what you hear is our first attempt of the song in full, recorded in one pass into one microphone so it is essentially a 'live acoustic take'.

This song was written around about the year 2000 and featured on the David William album "One Way Ticket" in 2006. It describes the way you can feel alone and unsettled inside when all on the outside suggests otherwise - ie. feeling melancholy on a summer's day.

For a number of months when we first came to Europe we kept encountering the name Suzanne (or variations of it) in various places. The owner of the very first apartment we stayed in Barcelona was called Susana. Arriving in Paris after that, taking our luggage off the airport bus, we looked up and a bus drove by right in front of us with 'Suzanne' emblazoned on it.

Written at the end of 2007 in Edinburgh and then put aside, this song resurfaced again in 2011 as part of the canon of songs SoulJahm have been working on throughout their travels in Europe.

It deals with how being a natural human being in this world seems to elude us and how we live in a system and structure that makes it almost impossible for us to be our natural self.

A song born out of the boulevard in Berlin, not the man Karl Marx himself. We walked up and down Karl-Marx-Allee many times throughout the winter of 2010/11 in the snow and "freezing cold". At that time we had no laptop or instruments and when we weren't staring at four walls in our "bunker" we had to make the long trek for internet access.

Originally written on ukulele while staying on the island of Giudecca in the summer of 2011, we have been working on a more layered recording since then. There is a special train ticket in Italy called "Sabato Italiano" (Italian Saturday) and as we moved through Italy we noticed every time we were due to move onto a new place it happened to be a Saturday.
