Written in the summer of 2011 on the island of Giudecca, Venice, our first stop in Italy. We had no idea what we were going to do with this song at that point but recorded a ukulele track in our apartment with the windows open where the sound of a boat passing was picked up along with the water. This simple ukulele track became the basis for the rest of the recording.
In Milan a few months later we added piano and in Nice the maracas and additional ukulele. It was some time before we were able to work on the track again, and in Budapest, March 2012, we recorded the hand drum track. Finally, the vocals and melodica were recorded in August 2012 in Spello, Italy and the song mixed in Perugia in September.
